Learning Outcomes for English Majors
Students who graduate with a B.A. in English from Virginia Tech must demonstrate the ability to:
- Reflect on the meaning and value of studying English.
- Analyze and evaluate their own work; integrate and synthesize work completed in different classes or contexts.
- Read critically and compose effective analyses of literary texts.
- Search for, select, and analyze information from electronic databases and other research sources; compose essays that integrate outside sources in ethical, accurate, readable, and effective ways.
- Present ideas effectively using oral and visual modes of communication.
- Relate the study of English to global and multicultural contexts; appreciate diversity in authors, texts, and viewpoints.
