Declaring an English Major

To declare English as your major, make an appointment with Cathy Skinner, Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising, or Vanessa Ruccolo, Undergraduate Advisor. New majors are accepted at the following times:

  • First four weeks of September
  • First three weeks of November
  • Third, fourth, and fifth weeks in January
  • First two weeks of April

Fill out the Change of Major/Minor form (pdf) (also available in Shanks 329).

If you are changing to English from another major or from University Studies, get the form signed by:

  • Your new advisor in English
  • The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Dean Rachel Holloway, 238 Wallace)
  • Your old advisor in your previous major
  • The Dean of your former College

If you are adding English as a second major, get the form signed by:

  • Your new advisor in English
  • The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Dean Rachel Holloway, 238 Wallace)

Fill out only the portions of the form that apply to your situation (Application for Change in Major, or Application to Add or Drop Second Major).

When you meet with Cathy Skinner, she will review your transcript, explain requirements, and provide a checksheet for degree completion.
