Professional Writing Awards
Two awards, each with a cash prize of $200, are available for English majors and minors in professional writing courses or internships. The application deadline for both awards is April 15. The awards are presented at the department's graduation ceremony. Students may submit documents in any media, as individuals or as a collaborative group. Students may submit the same document for both awards. See the application cover sheets for more details.
The Armstrong Family Foundation Award for Communication Design
This award recognizes outstanding communication design in professional writing. The award is presented for work that demonstrates the ability to design information for a specific purpose and audience. Submissions are evaluated in terms of the effectiveness of their communication design, including the application of design principles (e.g. contrast, clarity, grouping, etc.), the use of color and space, originality, and the overall form of the document(s).

The Robert Dedman, Jr. Award for Professional Writing
This award is made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Robert H. Dedman, President of ClubCorp International, Inc. The Dedman Prize recognizes outstanding work in professional writing that demonstrates the author’s ability to create effective texts that explain, instruct, or persuade for a specific audience and purpose. Submissions are evaluated in terms of content, organization, style, design, and correctness.
