Professional Writing
The 46-hour Professional Writing (PW) Option
of the English major prepares students to develop documents for corporate, government, nonprofit, and small-business organizations. Professional writers help their organizations solve problems and achieve goals with print, digital, and multimodal documents. Developing these documents requires research and interaction with a variety of stakeholders as well as writing and production.
Students in the PW Program combine coursework on the methods, forms, and issues of workplace writing with practical experience with client- or service-learning projects with non-profit organizations. We also strongly encourage internships. As a result, you will begin your career with an understanding of professional expectations and a portfolio of real-world writing samples.
The PW Program also offers an 18-hour minor.
