Guggenheim Fellowships

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation provides fellowships for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts. In 2008, the foundation selected 190 fellows from more than 2,600 applicants. Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment. Two of the Fellows (and the only two from Virginia) are professors in the Department of English at Virginia Tech: Paul Sorrentino and Bob Hicok.

In 2002, Thomas Gardner was a Guggenheim Fellow.

  • Paul Sorrentino is writing a biography of the 19th Century American author, Stephen Crane.
  • Bob Hicok is writing poetry.
