Force Add Procedures, English Courses
The people authorized to force add students and the procedures vary depending on the course you want to force add. We give priority to graduating seniors and English majors.
ENGL 1105, ENGL 1106, or ENGL 1204H
Please email the Assistant Director of Composition, Cheryl Ruggiero. Please be specific about the course you need and offer three CRNs for sections that work in your schedule.
ENGL 3764: Technical Writing, or ENGL 3774: Business Writing
If you have completed 60 hours of coursework (the prerequisite), please add any open section that fits your schedule.
Please note: Because of the considerable overlap in business writing (Engl 3774) and technical writing (ENGL 3764), we don't let students take both. Each is writing intensive, of course, and with a different audience focus, but the assignments are parallel and often identical.
Summer 2008. We cannot force add anyone into summer sections of 3764 or 3774 except for a senior who will complete all graduation requirements by the end of the summer. We will accept verification of that graduation status only from your advisor. Your advisor should contact Sandra Ross.
If you need to force add because all the sections are full and you are close to graduation, please follow these procedures:
- A request for a force add must come from the student's advisor certifying that the student is a senior who will graduate in the semester in which the course is offered.
- Advisors should suggest 2 or 3 sections (with CRNs) that would fit the student's schedule and provide the student's ID as well as name.
- Advisors may send their requests to Sandra Ross (sdavis60@vt.edu), subject line Force Add 37xx.
- Finance seniors: Please complete the force-add form in Pam 1016 (Finance department office). You will need to provide 3 CRNs that work for your schedule.
All other undergraduate English classes (2XXX - 4XXX)
Request permission to force add from the course instructor. If the instructor agrees, get a force-add slip in or outside 329 Shanks and take it to the course instructor for a signature. Then return the form to 329 for processing. Instructors are not required to force add students beyond the course capacity.
