Student Profiles: Lamar Wilson
Lamar Wilson, 28, is a North Florida native who comes to Tech after nearly a decade editing newspapers throughout the country. These days, he’s reading the poetry of A. Van Jordan, Terrance Hayes, Tracy K. Smith, Chris Abani, and Rita Dove and the prose of Abani, Toni Morrison and Tayari Jones, but he first fell in love with the words of Dr. Seuss, Edgar Allan Poe, James Baldwin, Morrison, Alice Walker, and the Blacks Arts Movement luminaries, including Tech’ own Nikki Giovanni. He’s a music lover with an eclectic taste (his Pandora.com jukeboxes include Bjork, Lucinda Williams, Donny Hathaway, Lizz Wright, Celia Cruz, Stevie Wonder, Amel Larrieux, and Stevie Nicks) who uses tunes as inspiration for whatever writing mood he's in. He keeps this mantra in mind while writing: Be clear, concise, and precise.
