Student Profiles: Grete Scott
My areas of scholarly interest revolve around first-year writing programs:
composition pedagogy, program formation, and writing centers. These interests
arose from my experiences at DePaul University, where I taught first-year writing
courses, developed computer-assisted tutoring options in the writing center,
and trained writing center tutors.
In addition, I want to study issues of place and identity: how our contexts, identities, and writings inform and shape one another, in communities both inside and outside the university. Currently, I am working on a conference paper discussing the role of poetry in a twenty-first-century composition classroom, arguing that the study of poetry has much to offer us in our disciplinary turn toward the rhetoric of civic discourse and the public sphere.
