Student Profiles: Taylor Loy
Whatever else I may be involved in, I will always be someone who write poems. Whether that makes me a poet or not is another matter entirely. Fortunately, for me, I tend to write poems intermittently, and they tend to be short. This gives me time to engage in hobbies such as graduate school. Currently my research is focused on the construction of dystopian/utopian worlds in literature, film, and even those emergent in the material reality. These texts are bacterial cultures grown to help diagnose an illness. Symptoms of society, technology, and ideology are magnified, brought into the light, to be studied or, in some cases, lived. As important as it is to think about where we have been, we must also pay mind to where we might be going.
