Student Profiles: Daniel Lawson
My
prior research dealt primarily with pedagogy and college reading skills. I
am hoping to continue to investigate critical pedagogy and composition theory,
but I am becoming increasingly interested in research in the relationship between
composition and identity.
I have taught first-year composition at my alma mater and writing at an alternative school. My approach to pedagogy could be characterized by what James Berlin labels ‘Expressionistic Rhetoric.’ That is, my focus is on assisting students to find their ‘voice,’ and become better at resisting the political, cultural, and economic forces that seek to shape them.
