Student Profiles: Brian Gogan
I
earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University in 2004 and my Master
of Arts degree from Marquette University in 2007. My current research
engages with issues in composition pedagogy and rhetoric in literature. My
projects in process include a case study of a “Letter to the Editor Assignment,” a
curriculum for composition courses focusing on critical race studies, and a
textual analysis of the rhetoric appearing in James Joyce’s Ulysses. In
Spring 2007, I received the John D. McCabe Award for Excellence in Teaching
at Marquette for my work in two courses, Academic Literacy and Public Sphere
Literacy. Over the past few years, I have collaborated with university
administrators, faculty, and fellow students by serving as a reviewer on two
Critical Literacies task forces, treasurer for the Association of English Graduate
Students, and liaison to the Preparing Future Faculty Program for the English
Department. I look forward to continuing this service at Virginia Tech.
